LASALLE X CHANGI - FLIGHT

LASALLE X CHANGI

The designer will be challenged to create a furniture piece that serves as an art installation using up-cycled building materials acquired from the renovation of Changi Airport Terminal 2. The selected work will be installed or placed in the newly refurbished Changi Airport Terminal 2, intended for public use and interaction, with the added requirements of being aesthetically pleasing, functional, and safe. The designer's inspiration will be derived from the "Constructivism" (modernism) or "Deconstructivism" (post-modernism) art, design, and architectural movements. The salvaged materials will require critical evaluation to ensure they align with the design's form, function, build, and aesthetics.

FLIGHT
Flying is often a thrilling experience. This plane-looking bench was designed in response to the long period of airplanes being grounded due to COVID-19. With the new norm, this bench is designed to evoke excitement among Changi Airport travelers about going on a flight again.

The seat is made out of both perforated and non-perforated ceiling panels used in the previous terminal 2. Legs are made from folded ceiling panels in non-rectilinear shapes and connected with bolts and nuts to a concrete divider.
